We had a ball chatting Africa Pace Brown. Her energy just soars! Daughter of musical legends, Oscar Brown, Jr. and Jean Pace Brown, she discussed being an artist in her own right. In Pearl & Pocketbooks Ep. 19 : Artistry, Africa joins us fresh off the stage as she reminiscences on her unique childhood traveling with her parents, the lessons her mother taught her about loving the skin you’re in, and the expansive love she never knew was possible before becoming a grandmother. And yes, she even blessed us with a song!

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Melanie Brezill is a professional actress and director from Chicago with a passion for telling black women's stories. Previous film projects include "I AM the Movement", which aired on Chicago's Can TV and led to the creation of her voter's registration drives of the same name. Melanie has worked as a teaching artist in conjunction with Court Theatre and Writer's Theatre. Recent Theatre credits include the National Tour and Broadway companies of The Book of Mormon, Nina Simone: Four Women (Northlight Theatre), and for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf (Court Theatre).
